A former 1943 umbrella factory, still intact with all its notable charm at the heart of East Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

The original structure at 710 Metropolitan Avenue was formerly home to the Embee Sunshade Company, one of the country’s oldest umbrella manufacturers. They’re still based in Williamsburg, Brooklyn but changed addresses. Their original location was preserved and converted last year by SL Development and Local Capital Group to 69 condo units, some of which are located in a four-story modern addition designed by Rawlings Architects.

An offering plan for the building was accepted in 2019, which includes studio to three-bedroom units ranging in price from $675K to $2.38M with an average asking PPSF of $1,438. But unfortunately, due to an accident in June 2021, construction of the Umbrella Factory has been halted temporarily. 

Some of the interiors feature the building’s original timber beamed ceilings, which are paired with matte black hardware, waterfall kitchen islands, and porcelain bathroom tiles. Several units have private outdoor space.

Residents can enjoy a large landscaped roof deck overlooking the Manhattan and Brooklyn skylines. The deck has two BBQ areas, dining areas, a sun deck, and a dog run. Other amenities include a fully equipped gym and an onsite gym.
